Spring STEM Activity in Early Years
The children were thinking about the process of melting. We discussed the different things we already knew about melting such as ice melting into water. They were asked what they thought would be the quickest way to melt chocolate. There were some great ideas and we set out to find some places in our classroom. It turns out chocolate melts quickest in our mouths, followed by the radiator. Finally, we watched how chocolate melts very quickly over some hot water on the hob, which was then made into chocolate rice crispy cakes for our Easter nests. We enjoyed eating these too!
Another Stem activity in the Early Years in the Spring. "Our theme was 'Zoom to the moon', so as part of this we wanted to inspire the children in all learning about space and the stars. We read the story "Look Up" which is about a little girl who is so excited about seeing a meteor shower and who dreams of going up into space when she grows up. We then made our own constellation tubes after talking about how stars can be arranged to look like pictures of different animals and objects. We had so much fun projecting light through our tubes to create patterns and our very own constellations in a darkened space."
