From this term we have decided to give greater focus to reading comprehension for children in Year 2. Many parents are keen to see their children move up through the book bands and it is great to see the support that the children get with the home reading and the Reading Challenge. Whilst moving up through the book bands shows us that the children's decoding skills are improving along with their expression and fluency it does not always match their comprehension (understanding) of the texts and stories they are reading. To support their understanding we will be sending a comprehension task home each Friday which the children should complete and return to school by Wednesday of the following week. There will be a text to read with questions as well as word and extension tasks. Please support your children with this each week. Don't forget there are other pages on the website that can give you ideas for questioning when your children are reading their banded or library books.
