This week the children have designed and made their own fruit kebabs. The most important part was of course the taste evaluation. Well done to many children who tried new fruits and found that they liked them!
If I were a bird I would…
…glide through the woolly clouds
…swoop above emerald green tops of trees
…flap over Newquay’s white caravans
…twirl past the towering flats of London
…hover over a rectangular football pitch on Cup Final day
The Big Friendly Giants
If I were a bird I would…
…flap over moody black towers with sad people inside
…turn around the round roundabout
…twirl around the whole the world and see the tops of emerald green tress
…soar over the scarlet moon in the midnight sky
…glide over the Rocky Mountains
…glide over the wavy blue water
The Crocodiles
If I were a bird I would…
…glide across the shining glittering mountains
…dash over the zooming cars
…soar across the house in America
…swoop over an emerald green bush
…flap my red scarlet wings and glide over the steep and misty forests
…glide over the dark chimneys
…Hover over the vast buildings
The Matildas
If I were a bird I would…
…glide over the tall grey buildings
…soar over stomping elephants on the African Savnnah
…dash over a new shiny house
…hover over a fish and chip shop
…twirl over the sparkling deep blue water
…flutter across the shimmering golden sand
…drift along a glittering blue river
…swoop over emerald green grass
…glide through clouds of sparkling raindrops
The Twits
If I were a bird I would…
…swoop over the wonderful enchanted Buckingham Palace
…sail through the fluffy soft white clouds
…hover over the fast cars on the grey curved road.
…twirl in the stormy crashing wind
If I were a bird I would…
…swoop over the sparking sapphire sea
…glide across the sky following the shimmering blue rivers
…swoop over my lovely home
If I were a bird I would…
…hover beneath the sparkling shimmering bright lights of the sun.
The Charlies
The children were treated to an inspirational presentation by the paralympian swimmer Kate Grey. She told them about her journey to the Paralympics and her role now as an ambassador and presenter. They also has the chance for a questions and answer session with her and took part in some team building activities. She really was inspirational.
This week the children have tasted and evaluated a selection of new fruits! They will choose their favourites to design and make a fruit kebab.
What an amazing day we had yesterday! Look at the class ACROSTIC Poem all about the day.
I have the right to choose my own friends and to help if I've been hurt, neglected or badly treated. My education should help me use and develop my talents and abilities.
We discussed this as a class this week and though about what it means for us. I'd like to share with you a couple of the children's responses.
We should treat people kindly, carefully and respectfully. Don't disturb anyone that is working hard.
If someone feels sad, I would feel sad for them. If I was mean to someone I would give them a hug and say sorry and make sure they are OK. If I see someone without someone to play with I would ask them if they wanted to play with us.

The children have enjoyed an interesting assembly telling them all about the All Stars Cricket Programme which is running all over the country. The most important aspect of this being that they can all be STARs by following these simple instructions.
If you are interested in your children taking part in this scheme then follow the link to the All Star Cricket Programme website
We have been looking at Traditional Tales and have been comparing Jack and the Beanstalk with this great modern version by Colin Stimpson called Jack and the Baked Beanstalk. Enjoy listening to this story at home and look at the stunning illustrations? Is this a traditional tale? Can you explain why?
This story is about a boy and his mother who run a cafe that isn't doing so well. When Jack brings home a can of baked beans that he spent their last pennies on, his mother was angry and threw it out the window! Overnight it grows into a huge beanstalk and Jack goes all the way up to find a giant who counts money all day. How will the giant react to Jack? Let's find out!
This week we have begun to explore what makes a traditional tale. We have explored many of our favourite tales and considered the similar features that we expect to find in these stories. What's your favourite traditional tale? Ask the children to prove to you whether its is a traditional tale or not.
We had an amazing day at the Eden Project in Cornwall on the 28th May. The weather stayed fine and dry and the children had "an awesome" day. They took some brilliant photos as you can see! The captured the colour, the light, the difference in size and the sheer scale of the biomes.
We started the Summer Term with a launch day exploring "The Great Outdoors". We started by exploring the school grounds for signs of Spring and the children took some amazing photographs of the new leaves and flowers in our grounds. We made some large scale pastel drawings of plants from Eden and dyed a large silk batik. The children also planted seeds to keep a diary of how they grow over the next few weeks and used microscopes and magnifying glasses to examine plants and leaves, making detailed labelled diagrams. The day finished with a treasure hunt around the grounds and a gathering at the log circle to share our findings and enjoy a cool drink at the end of an "awesome" day!
