What drives the wheels?
Which components / parts can we name / identify?
How are the components joined?
Can you see any similarities or differences?
Our class use Class Dojo!
It is a fantastic way of rewarding children for positive behaviour and learning skills. It is also a great way of communicating with myself and Mrs Elliott.
We are hoping to activate the children's 'Stories' very soon. This will mean that they can share examples of their work with you.
Invitations have been sent to the parents of children in our class and our Maths/English groups. Please follow the instructions to set up an account.
Is your child a Times Table Rock Goddess or God?!
Our class has signed up to the Times Table Rockstars programme.
In either paper form or online, Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.
Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practiced every third week or so.
This format has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed for hundreds of pupils over the last 4 years at King Solomon Academy, the school in which it was created. Now it is used in over 500 schools - both primary and secondary - worldwide.
* The children really enjoy completing the paper tests and accessing the online resources/app in school. The quicker and more accurate they become at answering tables questions the more rewards they will earn!
* Please note that the children are also encouraged to access their accounts at home- passwords/user names have been issued.
Year 5 children have access to Mathletics. This is an online learning platform, which supplements the children's learning in school. Each week I will set tasks for the children to complete. These will be related to the work we are completing in school. The children have been shown how to access the activities and live Mathletics competitions.
FIRST AID TRAINING
Today our class took part in basic first aid training, which was led by Geoff Forster. We learnt some important skills, which will hopefully enable us to help people who are injured in the future. Our sincere thanks go to Geoff for giving up his time to come and teach us.
On Thursday 8th June we visited Sir John Hunt Community College to take part in their Lead Learner Day. We had an enjoyable day during which the children: took part in a variety of sports activities; investigated chemical reactions and worked cooperatively to create a presentation linked to their country.
On Monday 6th March (to support our topic on Food and Trade) we visited the Riverford Organic Farm. We had a fantastic day, which included the option to have a tasty organic lunch! The children learnt about fair trade, organic farming, seasonality and crop rotation, They also took part in craft activities aimed at increasing their understanding of trade and organic farming.
It was lovely to have the feedback below form the staff at Riverford.
'I would just like to say how great the kids were for us today, a really enthusiatic and well-behaved bunch, they'd be very welcome back here anytime.'
Welcome to our class page.
We have had a great start to the Spring term. The children have settled in really well and are working hard!
The children have been using different grades of pencil to draw individual fruits and vegetables as well as still life compositions. The results have been stunning!
Year 5 have been investigating ciphers. The children have made 'Caesar Wheels', which they have used to send secret messages! Here is a message for you to de-cipher:

Something new - Numicon
The school has invested in a new maths resource which the children (in all year groups) will have access to. we have been investigating ways in which we can use it to help us calculate.
Year 5 have learnt two new games. Why not play them at home? Can you calculate the longest caterpillar?!
To help us become Maths Masters where possible we have been using visual models. The children have also enjoyed using manipulatives (apparatus) to support their learning.
Our 'Take-Away Tasks' are issued on Wednesday and must be handed in by the following Tuesday.
Spelling Tests take place on Wednesday mornings.
