This week the children have written their own instructions for "How to make a Christmas Tree". They have shared their writing on their own ClassDojo stories. Please have a look at what your children have achieved. They are amazing!
This week we have used the beautifully illustrated book by Jackie Morris, "Tell me a Dragon" to explore our own ideas of Dragons. The book ends with the words....Tell me about your Dragon...and that's exactly what we have done! The children have used wax resist and water colour washes to create their own dragons. The finished dragons are AMAZING! They then used these to inspire them to think about what their dragon is called, where it lives. what it likes and dislikes.
Watch out for our instructions on "How to catch a dragon" next!
This week we have continued to explore instructions and their features, learning how to create adverbs by adding the suffix 'ly'. Have a go at completing the sentences with the correct 'ly' words.
Our Maths this week has focused on money. Look at the Maths resources pages for some interactive games.
The children have enjoyed working with Mrs Orton and designing a Rangoli pattern for their T-Shirts. I think you'll agree that the results are brilliant!
Over the last term the Year 1 and 2 children have been thinking about how to become TV Chefs. They have explored algorithms to consider the instructions needed to create recipes. They have thought about how to debug any errors. Then they used iPads to record video and sound and take photographs which they have then edited using Movie Maker. In editing they had to consider the algorithm of the recipe to make sure the process was correct. They added animations and captions to complete their video. See if you can follow the video recipe to make delicious "Apple and Carrot Muffins".
Send us photos of your muffins! Email your photos to: email@example.com
This week we have explored 3D shapes by sorting and making them using our knowledge of their properties; including vertices, edges and faces.
This week we have begun to explore the features of a range of instruction texts. The children have identified generic features and looked for them in different texts. The favourite this week seems to be those "bossy" words (imperative verbs) and we were amused by the number children who regaled stories of bossy words in instructions from mum and dads!
We will be looking at this book as part of our work on instructions. It is a lovely poem that uses many instructions and evokes memories of many a fairy tale.
This week we have explored 2D and 3D shapes. We have named them and sorted them according to the number of edges, vertices and faces. Have a look at some of the online resources we have used on the Maths Resources page.
We have been exploring how to use the iPad video successfully. Here are our TOP TIPS!
This week we are continuing to use different models and resources to gain a deeper understanding of numbers. We have been comparing numbers using cubes and saying which is smaller or bigger and we have also used place value cards to recognise that 'teen' numbers are made of a 'ten' and a ones number eg; 10 and 7 is 17 or seventeen.
This week we have thought about nouns, adjectives and verbs. We have changed nouns in Monkey See Monkey Do and we have use QR codes to access online thesaurus with the iPad to find different words for adjectives and verbs.
We have continued to use numicon to develop our sense of and understanding of numbers. The children have sorted the shapes and recognised odd and even numbers. They have matched numbers and shapes using numerals and words. They have also found 1 more.
This week we began to familiarise ourselves with Numicon. We completed lots of different activities including comparing the shapes, matching the shapes to numbers and playing Bingo!
Year 1 children sorted letters of the alphabet into vowels and consonants and then put them in alphabet order.
