This week one of our writing challenges for the children was to use words with the suffixes less / ness or ment in their writing. They started by sorting words so they had a selection to choose from. We also used noun phrases, synonyms and lists with commas.
We have been exploring portraits in Computing. We have looked at various techniques and will explore pop art images as inspiration for our own art work later in the term. We have used half photos of our own faces and a pencil to make different mark making techniques to complete our portraits. We have also used pastels to make copies of some famous portraits.
We have been using a range of mathematical equipment this week to understand one and two digit numbers to 20 (year 1) and to explore place value to 100 (year 2). We have used numicon, bead strings, tens and ones counters, place value cards and abacus.
This week we have been reading and exploring the text "Dogger" by Shirley Hughes. We have thought about our favourite toys and how we feel about them and it would to lose them. This story will be the inspiration for writing our own stories about a lost toy over the next few weeks. Enjoy the story below.
As part of our counting this week the Year 1 children have been using numicon to count in 5s.
We have been looking at different types of poems over the last couple of weeks. Today we looked at kennings and then write our own to write a class poem!
In Year 1 we have been looking at numbers to 20. We have counted to and from 20 in 1s and 2s and we have matched numbers to words to images and pictorial representations of each number. We also completed a Tarsia Challenge using words and digits which involved us working as a team to complete the task successfully.
